My First-Year Journey To Homeschooling

My name is Fe, a first time homeschooling mom to Nathan who just completed his 6th grade under AOP Monarch curriculum.

I never thought about it before. But when the pandemic hit, it changed everything at least for our family. I chose to become a stay at home mom. With that decision, it opened new doors for us. And one of those doors is Homeschooling. The RLP in 2020 gently ushered us to homeschooling. It was not an easy decision. My husband and I had many discussions back and forth. We interviewed educators, homeschool parents and homeschoolers. I researched what kind of curriculum would best fit my son.

What can I say about my homeschooling experience? I Love it! It was not easy and not too hard but it was great and so worth it. Our homeschool adviser was with us every step of our homeschool journey. I was guided and all of my queries were patiently answered.

What I love about Homeschooling is that I have the flexibility to tailor his education based on his learning style and personality. I love that it teaches him to be proactive in his learning. If there is a lesson that he does not understand, he takes initiative to search up on that topic. And since there are few distractions at home, we get to finish his lesson in 3 hours which gives him time to pursue other interests like sports. With Monarch, it takes out the burden of lesson planning and grading and I can track what my child is learning everyday.

I appreciate the Huddles of LCS homeschooling program. They get to meet and interact with other homeschoolers. They also get to participate in school projects and programs. So my son is not really missing out on anything. He gets the best of the 2 worlds.
